How to Mix and Apply Henna Maiden Hair Colors
Mixing: Put the plastic gloves on, place the entire 100 gram bag of powder into a mixing bowl. Slowly add hot water (not boiling) to the powder and mix until the paste is the consistency of pancake batter. Don’t worry about exact amounts, there is no exact amount of water to add so go slow and mix until it looks and feels right. Use the paste immediately once mixed.No waiting! Henna should be applied to clean dry hair.
Applying: Divide your hair into 4 sections; begin by applying the paste one section at a time by scooping up the paste with your fingers and patting it on your hair like cake frosting. Apply the paste from the roots to the ends making sure each section is thoroughly coated. Cover your entire head with the plastic cap provided. Leave the paste on 1 hour for light results and 2+ hours for best results. The longer you leave the paste on the darker the color will be. Colors will vary with each person depending on the hair color you begin with and the condition of your hair. Henna darkens over the first 24 hours to its final color.
Rinsing: Rinse your hair out with warm or hot water, this will take a while so be patient. You should double condition right after using henna but it is recommended not to use shampoo for 24 hours. For the best results you should always use a sulfate free shampoo so the color will not be stripped off of your hair.
First Time Covering Gray Hair: A two step process may be required for covering your gray hair. Mix ½ the Henna powder and apply it to the roots only, cover and leave it on for 1 hour. Rinse it out and mix and apply the other half of the paste to your entire head, leave the second application on for the 1 hour. Gray hairs may appear brassy with only one application but will darken each time you apply the Henna. Remember henna is good for your hair so you can apply it as often as you need to.

I am indescribably impressed with the effect henna has had on my hair. I will absolutely never ever use chemical dyes ever again!! I've been coloring my hair red for the last 8 years, and henna gives my hair a more natural-looking red color than anything, ANYthing, I've ever done before. Yes, henna is messy, yes, it smells like grass, yes, it takes a couple hours to sit on your hair, but those are the only "cons", the results speak for themselves. I only had to order again so quickly because I missed a few places near my roots -- oops! Luckily, it's henna, so I can re-apply to my missed spots and nothing bad will happen :)

This stuff is fantastic! Yes, as mentioned, the smell of the product is a tad strong. However, I found it less offensive than the strong, chemically smell of 'over the counter' hair dyes. And, as suggested, next batch is getting some lavender oil to cover up the grassy smell a bit. But, the results for me were well worth it! Great shine, lovely reddish highlights and made those pesky grays much less noticeable. AND I loved that fact that I didn't have to mix up the whole batch. Add to all that fantastic customer service (with quick and thorough answers to convos) and you've got a winner product. I'll definitely be back for more!

I used just a tiny bit of the oil in the henna (from hennaking of course) to cover just grays. It helped to mask the "hay" smell of the henna. Loved working with henna King.
